Repurposing Your Vintage Jewelry Into Custom Creations
Inherited jewelry can be tricky.
There are those pieces that you love and you’ll never take off. And then, there are others that don’t necessarily fit your style. They have likely been languishing away in your jewelry box, but you don’t want to sell them because they still hold great significance.
So, what do you do with them?
Bring it in and let us take a look!
At Sissy’s, we’ve always carried the best selection of jewelry you can find. A lesser known fact about us, though, is that we create custom jewelry. So, if you can’t find that perfect piece, you can still get exactly what you want. You dream it, and we will make it come true.
“Quality changes over time. Settings change. Styles change,” our CEO Bill Jones says. “But, if all the materials are still good, you can remake it and bring new life to it.”
The Custom Creation Process
Creating custom jewelry all starts with our customers. Typically, customers will come in with heirlooms or loose gemstones and aren’t quite sure what to do with them.
Here’s where our award-winning designer and master jeweler, Christo Kiffer, and his team come into the picture. Christo has been a part of our Sissy’s family for the last 10 years, and he has received numerous accolades — including the coveted American Gem Trade Association’s Spectrum Award — for his custom creations. His team is no different.
With just a walk around the store and a simple consultation, Christo can gauge what piques your interest and determine what you might want in repurposed vintage jewelry. He will then sketch a concept of the custom piece and provide an estimate on the work. Next, our team will refine that concept with exact measurements, shapes and proportions using 3D software on a computer, allowing our team to provide a more precise estimate. From there, we’ll provide a rendering that you can try on, and we’ll go through any other adjustments you may want. And, lastly, we’ll cast and finish it.

Tips for Repurposing Vintage Jewelry
Do you have a piece of jewelry you’ve been dreaming about? Use these tips to get started on making that dream a reality:
- Be prepared to show us what you like.
This is one of the most important steps, as we’ll use your preferences in other jewelry — gemstones, settings and more — to design an initial sketch of your custom design. Are there certain metals that you don’t like? Do you prefer a scalloped setting or something more traditional like a prong setting?
This is also the stage when you’ll want to tell us your budget, if you have one. We will create the perfect design to fit your needs, and, if needed, we also provide up to 60 months of on-site financing.
- Add a personal touch.
Jewelry is a form of self-expression, and when you have a chance to make a one-of-a-kind piece, why not add a little of your own flair to it? You can still personalize to your taste while honoring the meaning of your inherited pieces.
- Trust the process.
At Sissy’s, we have craftsmen who have racked up countless awards in their years of experience. They know, for example, when a gemstone may not be fit for certain types of jewelry or that certain metals work better for certain styles. Know that we are here to serve you, and that means that we won’t stop until you’re happy with the final product.
