For others, it’s a marquise or princess cut. But, did you know that there is actually an ideal diamond thanks to one Marcel Tolkowsky?

If you’re unfamiliar with the name, Tolkowsky revolutionized the diamond-cutting industry. In 1919, the renowned mathematician and gemologist came up with the perfect proportions for a diamond cut — a round brilliant with 58 facets: 33 on the crown and 25 on the pavilion —  maximizing the gem’s fire, brilliance and scintillation. The formula is used to this day to create the ideal cut diamond.

It’s become the industry’s standard for the perfect cut — until now.

Fire Polish Diamonds are the biggest breakthrough in the industry in the last century, and they’re once again changing the way we look at diamonds, particularly through the gem’s brilliance and fire.

“Nanotechnology creates this explosion of fire that’s more than 300 times more brilliant,” our CEO, Bill Jones, explains. “There’s never been a more exciting time to shop for the perfect diamond!”

What Is Diamond Fire?

To really appreciate the unique properties of a Fire Polish Diamond, you’ll need to fully understand the three qualities behind a diamond’s charm: brilliance, fire and scintillation.

Both brilliance and fire speak to a diamond’s ability to reflect and refract light. Brilliance refers to the flashes of white light that reflect from a diamond, while fire is the refraction of white light dispersed into thousands of colored light flashes. Scintillation — or what we all know as sparkle — is the combined effect of brilliance and fire.

These three characteristics are affected most by the diamond’s cut, as its proportions and its quality will determine how well light can reflect and refract from its surfaces. Though, other factors like light sources can also impact whether you see a diamond’s brilliance and fire at certain times.

Playing with Fire

firepolish_400x400 Fire Polish Diamonds Burn Bright this FallTraditionally, jewelers had to sacrifice brilliance for fire or vice versa. A diamond didn’t give you those robust colors if you wanted ultimate shine, and it didn’t give you the most luster if you wanted rainbow radiance.

Fire Polish Diamonds change that, allowing you to have the best of both worlds. Using a cutting-edge proprietary technique, diamond cutters insert 100,000 high-resolution microprisms into certain facets of the diamond, creating the intensely unique rainbow effect while also improving brilliance by 300 percent. The microprisms are so small that they aren’t visible to the naked eye — and even most microscopes — but its added fire and sparkle will catch your eye from several feet away! It makes any standard diamond pale in comparison.

It’s the biggest advancement in the diamond industry in 100 years, and it’s already changing the way we define the perfect diamond. Once judged solely on the four C’s — color, clarity, carat and cut — the trendsetting Fire Polish Diamonds have now added a fifth must-have: fire.

Pair up the year’s most colorful season with our most colorful diamond, and you’ll be sure to make a statement.
