Brilliant Proposals: Leah and Colby

Every proposal is magical, but the right engagement ring and location can make it a true fairy tale. In classic storybook fashion, Leah and Colby got engaged at Disney World right in front of Cinderella’s castle, and Leah received her dream ring from Sissy’s Log Cabin. We were honored to be part of their magical day in Orlando, all the way from Little Rock.

Leah and Colby both attended Cabot High School but did not meet until they were students at Arkansas State University at Beebe. Colby sent Leah a cheesy pick-up line via Twitter. She laughed and gave him a hard time, but ultimately gave him her number. A month later, the two met in person at a mutual friend’s birthday dinner. Colby secretly paid for Leah’s meal, and two nights later, they went on their first date, bowling with friends. The next night, Colby took Leah to dinner and to meet his parents, and they have been together ever since.

In July 2017, Colby and Leah went to Sissy’s in Little Rock to look at rings. Leah showed our jewelry expert, Dave Elliott, a picture of the dream ring she found on Pinterest. Dave led her and Colby directly to the rings that were almost identical to the one in the picture. He showed them different options in different price ranges and was knowledgeable and kind.

They did not purchase a ring that day and, because Colby was a college student, Leah imagined it would be at least a year before they got engaged. However, Colby returned to Sissy’s by himself a few weeks later. Dave had noted Leah’s ring size and the different rings she loved in the store. Colby selected the perfect ring for Leah and left confident his proposal would sweep her off her feet.

While Colby was finding the perfect ring, Leah was finding the perfect job. She graduated college and got a job as a Registered Dental Hygienist. To celebrate her accomplishments, she and Colby planned a trip to her favorite place—Walt Disney World. It was Colby’s first trip to the happiest place on earth, and Leah was excited to show him around.

When they got to Florida, they headed to the Magic Kingdom and watched a parade go by, then got in line to take a photo in front of Cinderella’s Castle. When it was their turn to smile in front of the castle, Colby grabbed Leah’s hands and said “I need to ask you something before we take our photo. Leah, I have known for a very long time that you are the person I want to marry.” Then, Colby got down on one knee, opened a little blue box that revealed Leah’s dream ring and asked her to be his wife. Leah said “yes,” and the crowd that had formed around them started cheering.

They celebrated for the rest of the trip and were congratulated by many park-goers because of the “Happily Ever After” buttons Disney gave them that read “Just Engaged!” Later, Leah learned that Colby had traditionally asked her dad for her hand in marriage and had planned an engagement party for when they came home. Her engagement, fiancé and ring were truly a dream come true.
